by Admin User.
This is an academic site hosted by a non-profit foundation whose aim is to work for the common wealth.

Sadly enough some people does not seem to like altruistic organizations and the site has suffered from abusers, forcing us to take measures.

We have been forced to disable account creation for the time being (until we can find a better way to allow bona-fide individuals free access) and restore all accounts to a very old backup.

This means that your account and or password may no longer be valid. If that is the case, please do contact the site administrator to request a new one or use the system password recovery procedures.

Molecular Dynamics Simulations (TINKER)

by Admin User.

MOLECULAR DYNAMICS SIMULATIONS (TINKER)
An open EMBnet introductory course
10-11th November, 2008. 9:30-16:30
CNB, Madrid. Spain
Places available: 20 students max.

This is an introductory course to Molecular Dynamics simulations for Life Scientists with an interest in understanding biological macromolecular systems. The course is based on an earlier EMBnet course delivered at the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics using CHARMM. The course will provide:

A basic overview of the methods used in Molecular Dynamics

Practical sessions using the TINKER molecular simulation package covering

simulation of fluids using periodical boundary conditions

protein simulations in vacuo and in simplified and fully atomistic solvent models

This course will be in English and rely heavily on EMBnet eLearning facilities to provide access to materials, assessment and enhanced communication mechanisms. You can get a preview of the course at

http://elearning.embnet.org/course/view.php?id=55

The course includes practical sessions and assignments that outlast the course in-person span. Students are expected to complete these on their own time using the e-learning web server for feedback, support and assignment submission (if they are interested in getting any grades).

Students having standing problems that might benefit from these courses are encouraged to bring their own data for the practical sessions.

Note as well that these courses are not included in the official University curriculum. If you want them to count in your studies you will need to ask your local University to accept them as external courses. For students getting graded, certifications will be emitted.

INSCRIPTION:
EMBnet is a non-profit foundation whose main goal is promotion of development and adoption of Bioinformatics. This course is organised for biomedical researchers and no particular programming knowledge is required, however some basic Unix/Linux computing skills would be of great advantage.
